This spring, our fifth-grade students from Bloomingdale Elementary and Pullman Elementary came together for a special day of fun, connection, and new beginnings at Urban Air. While the trip was filled with laughter, energy, and plenty of jumping, it also marked something much bigger—these students’ first opportunity to come together as one class before starting middle school.

At Pullman, students complete their elementary journey at fifth grade before transitioning to Bloomingdale for middle school. While many of these students will soon share classrooms, hallways, and experiences, this field trip gave them the chance to meet, interact, and build friendships in a relaxed and exciting environment ahead of that transition.

From the moment they arrived, it was clear that nerves quickly turned into excitement. Whether they were racing across obstacle courses, tackling climbing walls, or cheering each other on, students naturally began connecting. Laughter replaced uncertainty, and by the end of the day, new friendships had already begun to form.

Events like this are an important part of supporting a smooth and positive transition into middle school. Bringing students together early helps ease anxiety, builds confidence, and creates a sense of belonging before the first day of school even begins.

We are proud of how quickly our students embraced this opportunity—not just to have fun, but to welcome one another and begin building their shared future. The energy and positivity from this day carried far beyond Urban Air and set the tone for what’s ahead.

As these students prepare to take their next step into middle school, they’ll do so not as strangers, but as a community already beginning to take shape.
