Bloomingdale Public Schools is proud to announce its partnership with Western Michigan University on a transformative $13.7 million federal GEAR UP grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This seven-year initiative will provide more than $1.9 million annually to support middle and high school students across the region, including those in Bloomingdale.

Through this program, our students will benefit from expanded academic support, tutoring, summer learning opportunities, financial literacy education, and exposure to a wide range of postsecondary pathways—including four-year universities, community colleges, trade schools, and certificate programs. The initiative will follow this year’s 6th and 7th grade cohort through high school graduation and into their first year of college.

“As superintendent, I am pleased that Bloomingdale is a partner recipient of this competitive grant,” says Superintendent Rick Reo. “It will bring valuable resources to our district, focused squarely on student success and fully aligned with our ‘Own Your Future’ approach. We are excited to get started and see the lasting impact on our students and families.”
